5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ….Happy New Year!!!! You can feel the energy as excitement feels the air- a new year approaches. Whether counting hours, minutes, or seconds that brilliant ball of light in Times Square will soon drop and 2015 will be here before we know it. Like most folks I have made a list of resolutions: eat healthy, work out, live, laugh, and love more. But each year it’s the same thing, by March I am looking back and wondering what happened to those good intentions? My motivation fails and I am left trying evaluate whether it’s worth starting over or just waiting until the next year to try again. Recently, the thought occurred to me that the “me” centered resolutions I have made have failed. As things have gotten tough I have become distracted and unable to reach the finish line. But when my life has connected with a cause I have been able and willing to give of myself, even in an uncommon and sacrificial way. I realize now that I have underestimated the power of a cause and think maybe others have to. A cause can be the most powerful weapon in our life story. It brings meaning to the monotony and purpose to the process of of our lives. A cause that is worth living for will enrich your marriage and keep your family together. It will energize you in the driest of places. When a cause is bigger than me I can find value in the small things. Perhaps one of the most noblest of causes can be found in the needs of at risk children around the world. Each day 22,500 at risk children die of preventable causes many of whom have never experienced the love of Christ. This need is great, and this cause is profound. It’s one that we all can make a difference at. And it’s worth making a change to impact these little lives. So this next year instead of making a resolution, choose a cause worth living for. Find something worth supporting and that you want to share. Make sure it’s bigger than you. And watch and see how much healthier, happier, and fulfilled you become when your choices come from the heart of a cause.
